Mathematics Summer Research Program at USC

Department of Mathematics • University of Southern California

Welcome to the homepage of the RTG Mathematics Summer Research Program (MSRP) at USC. This is an annual summer research program aimed at outstanding undergraduates interested in differential geometry, topology, representation theory and/or combinatorics. The program will consist of two phases.

  • Pre Program. A three month pre-program from early April to early July. This will consist of assigned background reading and bi-weekly discussions with a graduate student mentor over Zoom.
  • Main Program. An eight week research program from early July to late August at USC, consisting of guided research in groups of two, under the mentorship of an RTG graduate fellow and an RTG postdoctoral scholar. Each group will be expected to produce a project report or a research article.

The program will admit four undergraduate participants from universities across the United States and up to four additional undergraduate participants who currently attend USC. Please note that

  • USC participants must also apply for funding through the USC SURF Program upon acceptance.
  • Non-USC partipants will be funded by the USC RTG project and must be citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States or its territories and possessions.
We are gratefully supported by the National Science Foundation under award DMS-2446019.
